Florence Bench & Bus Stop

Andy Adams, Jenn Summers and I get to make a 60 foot long, question mark shaped, poured concrete bench.  It’s a project in honor of Mrs. Nancy Bratton, whom I’m told was a great gardener and a generous soul.  We’re asked to include some impressions of plants in the vertical surface of the bench.  Some flourishes will come from her garden and some from another friend who donated giant bamboo for this project.

With lots of trial and error, I’ve chosen a bamboo racing stripe as the plant imprint.  Here are pictures of gathering and prepping the giant ‘Hennon’ bamboo.  I’ll update the photo gallery and blog for the next few weeks during construction.

The bench acts as a gathering point for school groups.  As buses arrive and children get on and off, it provides an orientation place, a place for head counts as well as fun.

I’ll add pics and Jenn will add more updates on her blog!    Click here for Jenn’s blog.
