Hymenocallis harrisiana

$24.00

This is an excellent container plant. Gray-green leaves stand straight and grow to a height of 15 inches. The leaves themselves make a cool statement in a container.

I’ve used this in a garden among purple heart, in a rocky, red-clay area with no irrigation. Drought-tolerant and long-lived, this is a cool little plant. An interesting note about the flowers: you can cut and drop them into a vase without water, and they will still look great for days.

Description

Growing Conditions: They can tolerate rocky, red-clay areas and places with no irrigation.

Flowers: This little bulb comes to life with elegant flowers from spring through early summer. Then its flower and foliage are just gone; you won’t see a sign of the plant until next May.

Flowering Season: Flowers begin to emerge in June. It produces fat, green, marble-like seeds in July, and some will germinate or can be grown easily in a pot.

Leaves: This plant has fascinating leaves. Harrisiana has gray-green leaves that stand straight and grow to a height of 15 inches. The leaves themselves make a cool statement in a container.

How To Plant: Plant them at a depth of four to five inches and a few inches apart.

Where To Plant: This lily has made a great show in gardens. When planted among purple heart, they make an interesting accent among low groundcovers like mazus. Sometime in August, the plant goes dormant, and you won’t see it again until spring.

Our Bulbs: We ship one bare root bulb with living roots, about the size of a golf ball.
