Drumstick Allium

Enchanting spheres of deep mauve nod and sway with the gentle summer breeze. The most charming of flowers, they’re big enough to make a show but small enough to intertwine with perennials like yarrow and day lilies seamlessly.

If you have a native-ish grassy meadow, nothing brings a bit of pizzaz like drumstick allium!

The whimsical, ping-pong ball-like flowers gracefully fill the spaces between other plants in may and June.

Planting these bulbs is a breeze – simply push them about an inch deep into the soil, and watch as they effortlessly establish themselves. Like most allium, they need to bake in the summer — old gardeners use the phrase ‘grow them hard’ meaning no irrigation, no mulch, no fertilizer, just let them zone out.
