Description

Dychoriste oblongifolia

Growing Conditions This tough little native thrives in dry, sandy soils where most groundcovers give up. It handles heat, drought, and poor soil without complaint. Once it settles in, it asks for almost nothing in return.

Flowers The blooms are a soft lavender-purple, delicate and daisy-like, rising just above the mat of foliage. They bring a gentle, wildflower charm to bare spots and edges. You get that fine-textured look that makes a garden feel right.

Flowering Season Expect flowers from spring through fall, with the heaviest flush in spring. The plant keeps blooming off and on all season, which means there is almost always a bit of color catching your eye.

Leaves The foliage is small, oblong, and densely packed, forming a low mat that hugs the ground. The leaves stay green and fresh-looking even through summer heat. That mat is doing real work, holding soil and shading out weeds.

How To Plant Plant in full sun to very light shade. Dichoriste does not want rich, wet soil — give it the lean, well-drained spot other plants avoid. Space them a foot apart and let them spread. They will fill in beautifully over a season or two.

Where To Plant This is your answer for dry slopes, sandy banks, roadsides, and any hot, baked spot you have been struggling with. It works as a lawn alternative in difficult areas and looks wonderful spilling along pathways or between stepping stones.

Our Plants You receive two well-rooted plants, ready to hit the ground growing. We grow them here on the farm and ship them with care so they arrive healthy and ready to establish.
