What Do You Do First?

I worked with two different twenty-something couples this week.   One planning to resell in a few years, one there for the long haul.   It made me think of my own place in Columbia — I was 27 when I bought it.  DSC02008What were my priorities?   1. Privacy 2. A place to hang out with groups of friends  3. a place to work out.  4. A little place to grow some food.

Here’s a little section of that backyard — it’s basically served all those functions well since the early 90s.

In the pic from yesterday, you can see   1. Privacy from fence and large shrubs.  2. Chemical free lawn for sitting, napping, testing a tent, hanging out.  3. My pull up bar (and abs bar to right) and 4. potatoes, radish and I could even eat, if I were so inclined, the red roses in a flower petal salad.  Not inclined.

It’s all totally organic; the lawn, the veggies, even the ‘Speedy Gonzalas’ rose and we use only a reel type mower; no engines, no fumes, no synthetic chemicals.

Easy, cheap and home.
