I Dug It. And I’d Do It Again….
When I was little, all the adults in my life had tiny folding camping shovels. They kept them in the trunk, just in case they came across some cool plant on the side of the road. My Mother still has a her little shovel in the trunk.
Stopping to dig may not be cool anymore. People care more. There’s less wild land and more rules and serious concerns.
I dug this wild Azalea when I was about 5. Every year that I wasn’t home at Easter, no matter where I was from Antigua to Zambia, Momma called or sent a picture to tell me the azalea flowered. I’m so happy I’m home, no longer slave to my travel bug or some job, to be with family, to see my azalea flowering.
( Another great shrub for spring, one that would look really cool with this pink azalea is the golden leaf and flowered Jasminum SunGlo. We’re giving away two. First to our existing email newsletter readers. Second, to new email readers. So sign up if you’re not on the list. We’ll draw soon and mail you the bush. Here’s a pic of my friend Bob’s, we planted is 4 years ago and he cut it back severely this winter. It’s cool how it cascades over the wall. Sign up to win it, via the Contact button above.)
