Oklahoma Milk & Wine

$23.00

An old pass along from Tulsa — a true beauty as the flowers are held close together for a lovely bouquet effect in late May!   This hybrid is very cold-hardy.  A fun historical note: the breeder of this plant, W. Herbert, was quizzed by Charles Darwin about the making of what Darwin called a “mule” plant.  Herbert’s work was cited in Origin of the Species.

Description

Foliage; Clumps to 3 feet tall and spreading. Leaves apple green.

Culture: One of the more cold-hardy crinum.  Full sun to part shade in hotter climates.  Regular garden soil.

History; This milk and wine type came from a friend near Tulsa.  He says it’s been there as long as he can remember, decades.  One expert suggested it may actually be P.F. Reasonor, a very old clone sold via a late 1800s Florida nursery.

Our bulbs: We ship one flowering size bulb about the size of a tennis ball with living roots and an overall length of about 16 inches.
