Description
In old fields around these parts, you see the fascia flags in May. I know some patches of Byzantine Glad that are older than me.
Gray sword like leaves come up earlier and last through the summer. The key to longevity seems to be summer dry and tight soils. Treat them too good and they’ll rot away — after they’ve made on summer show. So, worth it even if they leave you.
Plant glads as soil starts to warm in March. You can stagger them, plant every two weeks and you’ll get flowers all summer long. You can even plant them in July for a late summer show.
Unlike modern glads, these stand up well on their own.
