SC Horticulture Industry Show

This show actually starts tomorrow but I did a quick walk around while people were moving in.   Here’s a quick impression:  there’s more organic fertilizer than I’ve ever seen at a trade show!   There’s also an interest in history and the ‘state of the industry…..Here’s an old John Deere, just like the one I learned to drive on  (yes it’s much, much older than me, but I came from people who don’t let things like a tractor go easily)

IMG_3640I’m also happy to see lots of plants AND PLANTING METHODS for sustainable gardens.    Things like my favorite, Spartina grass sold in small pots so you can plant masses of it.

There are a number of nurseries selling bare root trees, saving plasticIMG_3643 and transport cost.IMG_3642 Old School.

The coolest thing though — you have to be a real gardener to buy plants that are not even rooted.  Living stakes of willow and other easy to root trees.

IMG_3648If you’re doing a mass, or a stream bank stabilization, just stick these in the ground, they’ll root and grow.  More stuff later after the Trade Show Cocktail Party which is sponsored by Moore Farms Gardens!
