Monday was my first official day at the farm, and so far we’ve visited clients and explored in Augusta and given two tours. It doesn’t really sound like much, but given the heat and dryness of the past few days, it’s a relief today to be enjoying the indoors of Starbucks.
On our tours, one of the Allendale County Extension and the other of the Magnolia Garden Club from Augusta, it was interesting to see that there were several plants that people from both tours flocked to. These plants caused quite a bit of discussion between us, which really shows the power they have on people.
Some of the ladies got so excited about this fennel. It was a little surprising!
One of the newest plants in the garden, this Digiplexis “illumination’ sparked a great conversation about biennials and new introductions.
Of course, who doesn’t like poppies?
Even I was taken back when I first saw these Hercules Amaryllis.
The pomegranate is in full bloom, and we had a lady bring up an interesting point that her tree hasn’t produced fruit.
Fun fact about the tongue oil tree, the oil from the fruit is used to preserve wooden furniture.
Several ladies shared their experiences with money plant. Most loved it but we all agreed it can get out of hand sometimes.
A beautiful and often asked about groundcover. Lamium does get out of control, but definitely sparked an interest with its variegated leaves
I think this plant looks like an oversized dianthus. Lynchis really pops in the garden with its silver vegetation and bright pink flowers!
These giant pecan trees were loved by everyone on both tours, and I’m guessing there aren’t many large ones like these because many of the visitors were asking what they were…
